New Year Energy Drink Carrier

Hi Everyone

First, I would like to thank each and every one of you who took time from your busy days to watch my videos or visit the website.  I am humbled and overjoyed that we can spend some time sharing this love of creating that we all enjoy.

Second, I wanted to let you know that I am going to take a couple of weeks off to visit my Mom with the kids.  I will also reorganize my craft space, so we can be ready to create in the New Year!

On to today’s project, which is an adorable energy drink carrier.  Modeled after some of the cup carriers, I sized this one to fit some of the energy drinks that are available on the market, but any similar sized product would work.  With all of the New Year’s celebrations and parties, perhaps you know someone who would benefit from a little energy boost.  (Someone  mentioned it may fit the little wine or liquor bottles, and if anyone has one around, please let me know!  I’m thinking it may need to be a little taller, so your 6 3/4″ measurement may need to be increased if you wish to give spirits, instead.)

Start with a 6 3/4″ by 11″ piece of card stock, and score with the short side up at 1 3/4″ and 3 3/4″.  Turn the card stock with the long side up, but make sure that the smaller (1 3/4″) section is at the bottom, and the larger (3″ for this size) section is at the top.  (This is because we will do some partial scoring.)  Score all the way at 1 3/4″, 5 1/4″, 7″, and 10 1/2″.  Then score JUST TO THE FIRST SCORE LINE at 3 1/2″ and 8 3/4″.  Fold and burnish all the complete score lines, but don’t worry about the two partial ones at this point.

Cut the top and bottom sections of the 1/2″ glue tab, leaving only the middle section in place.  In landscape, with the 1 3/4″ section down, cut up along the scorelines on the rectangles and slightly notch into the squares, as this will be the bottom of the box.  On the top, I cut carefully down each side of the score line, to the first intersecting scoreline, for each of the full length scores. Then just snipped the score line off.  (Don’t cut the partial scorelines, yet.)  For the two narrow sections, they will fold down, so I trimmed them just shorter than the side of the box.

On the sections with the partial score, cut the side and score line free from the box that is opposite the side of the box with the glue tab.  This will give you two sections where half of the section swings free like a door.  (The video is much better than words.)  It has to be done on the same side of both partial scores, because we will need to swing them in and glue them together to form the handle.  Before that happens, we need to glue the bottom of the box together as normal, side tabs, then back tab, then front.  Now is the time to swing in and glue the two flaps together to form the handle, and slide a 1″ circle punch down on that section to punch a finger hole.

Wrap and adhere a 1 3/4″ by 11″ piece of patterned paper around the box, lining up the edge with the seam of the box.  Stamp a sentiment and punch with the Pretty Label Punch.  I used a mat made from another Pretty Label punch cut in half vertically, and offset slightly on each end.  It gives the illusion of having a slightly larger mat.  Then, stick it on with foam tape, and add an embellishment to complete!  Stick your offerings in, and gift!

If you use a patterned card stock, you may not need to wrap it will paper and can just stick a sentiment on and be good to go.  Either way, it makes a nice gift for anyone to celebrate the New Year.

Christmas 2017 Teapot Treat and Gift Card Holder

Hi Everyone,

The last project for this Christmas is an all-purpose, treat, teabag or gift card holder.  In the shape of a teapot, it is an adorable way to give someone a treat and a gift card.  Dress it up for Christmas, or decorate it to personalize it to your recipient.

The pocket on the teapot measures 3″ by 3 3/4″ by 1/2″, and will fit a couple of teabags, a gift card, some candy or even small pieces of jewelry.  It is made from an 8″ by 8″ piece of card stock, and scored on the diagonal.

Place the diagonal on the 1/4″ in line and score, turn the piece 180 degrees, and place the diagonal on the 1/4″ line and score again.  This will give you a 1/2″ strip down the center of the diagonal.  Turn it 90 degrees, and now place the diagonal on the 1 1/2″ line and score, turn it 180 degrees and place the diagonal on the 1 1/2″ line and score again.

I used a 1 1/2″ punch to round the corners at the top and on both flaps for the handle.  I used a 1″ circle punch to create the handle, and also to shape the curve in the spout.  It is not hard to create, but a bit hard to explain.  So, I will put in the video so you can watch how I did it.

Christmas 2017 Ribbon Bookmarks Ready for Gifting

Hi Everyone,

Please don’t object to my use of “gifting” for this project.  I wanted to convey a sense of giving, but have it include all of the warm and wonderful thoughts and feelings that go into creating a present personalized just for the person receiving the gift.

These bookmarks can be made with what you already have in your stash, but can still be beautifully personalized to the person receiving the gift.  They can be a thoughtful gift by themselves, as stocking stuffer, or can accompany a carefully and lovingly selected book.

The bookmarks are made with a 9″ length of ribbon, although the length can be adjusted if you are giving them with a taller book.  I used the Circle Tab Punch for each end of the bookmark, so the width of your ribbon can vary from 1/2″ to 1″, which is just smaller than the width of the “shoulders” of the circle tab punch.  You probably want to select a ribbon that is not bulky, because it will be sandwiched between the circle tab punch layers.

The most important thing to watch out for is the glue.  Take time to glue the bookmark carefully, as you don’t want any stray glue to stick to the pages of the book.  I used a touch of Fast Fuse to stick it fast, but a bit of Tombow to hold for the long run.  You can personalize these any way you wish using different ribbons, card stock colors, stamped images and even tassels.  If using premade tassels, make sure to carefully “twist” the jump ring open and closed to keep it round.  Watch the video for a visual explanation.

I packaged them in a 2″ x 8″ cellophane bag, and used a strip of card stock 10″ by 1 7/8″, scored at 8″, with the scored end punched in the Scalloped Tag Topper punch.  Stamp a sentiment on this top flap.  Next, cut a slit in the card stock about 3″ from the bottom, and centered 1/2″ from each side.  That is where I pulled the bulk of the ribbon through so the bookmark top and bottom would be visible in the packaging. If you have repositionable adhesive, you could stick it down with that.  I used some washi tape from the Year of Cheer to hold it in place, because the washi doesn’t usually leave any stickiness or residual. Test yours to be sure. Remember to secure the ribbon on the back as well.  Then slip the card stock and bookmark into the cello bag, fold over the top flap and stick with a glue dot to the cellophane bag, thread a ribbon or twine through and around, and tie a knot or bow.  Embellish as desired.

Here are the ones I created:

A more masculine version, this was made with the Night of Navy Crinkled ribbon, tab punches from Whisper White and stamped with Touches of Texture in Sahara Sand, and embellished with the rooster and “for you” from the Wood Words stamp set.  The 3/4″ circle punch cuts sentiments and images that fit well in the circle tab punch.  The sentiment is from SU Christmas Pines.  I used a snowflake punch from The Paper Studio.

The next one was made with Berry Burst finely woven ribbon, gold foil paper tabs, gold embossed flower from Better Together, gold embossed “enjoy” from Tabs for Everything, package embellishment with the Holly Berry builder punchies, and sentiment stamped in berry burst from the Better Together stamp set.  Gold tassel from the Eastern Beauty collection.

The third one was created from the Fresh Fig finely woven ribbon, gold foil paper tabs, “Hello” and flower image from Easter Beauty stamp set, fresh fig tassel from the same collection, gold foil and silver glimmer paper punched stars (SU retired punch) and fresh fig stamped sentiment from Better Together.

Christmas 2017 Place Card with Treat Holder

Hi Everyone!

This project would work equally well for Thanksgiving as Christmas.  In fact, any celebration where you sit down with family and friends to enjoy a meal would be a great way to use these place cards.

The place card stands like a “tent”, and has a little box on the side for a goodie or note.  I show some goodies in the video that will fit into each of the sizes.

  • For the larger Thanksgiving version, I used:
  • Cajun craze card stock: 5″ x 8″, scored on the long side at 1″, 4″, and 7″.
  • Very vanilla card stock with banner die and largest stitched square die.
  • Early espresso card stock with scalloped square to fit sentiment square.
  • Painted Autumn paper, 3″ x 6″, scored on long side at 1/2″, 2 1/2″, 3 1/4″, and 5 1/4″, fold and secure into 2″ by 3/4″ sleeve.
  • The Painted Harvest stamp set with cajun craze and crushed curry inks.
  • See the video for how I cut the place card to accommodate the treat holder.

  • For the smaller one, I used:
  • Cajun craze card stock 4″ x 6″, score long side at 1″, 3″, and 5″.
  • Very vanilla die cut with smallest stitched oval, and 5/8″ by 3 1/2″ for banner.
  • Early espresso die cut with matching scalloped oval, and 1/2″ by 4″ for banner.
  • Painted Autumn paper at 2″ x 4 1/2″, with long side scored at 1/2″, 2″, and 4″, then fold and secure into 1/2″ x 2″ sleeve.
  • Stamped with Painted Harvest sentiment in Cajun Craze ink.
  • See video tutorial for how to cut place card to accommodate holder.

The Christmas themed place cards were made in the same manner, but with Garden Green, Real Red, and Whisper White card stock, Real red ink, Garden Green or Quilted Christmas ribbon, and the Be Merry paper pack.

Just add your guest’s name, and pop in a little treat or note, and it makes for a lively tablescape.  Of course, you may further embellish these to match your decor and celebration!

Christmas 2017 Triangle Top Gift Bag

Hi Everyone,

Today’s project is a fun gift bag.  It starts as a 12″ x 12″ piece of paper, and is folded into a bag shape.  These have been around for a bit, and I sized this one to fit a 3-pack of K-cups and a little treat.  The difference comes when we cut a coordinating 6″ x 6″ piece of designer series paper or card stock diagonally and use it for a handle.

What a beautiful packaging to give to someone you love, perhaps with a Keurig 3=pack of their favorite coffees or cocoas, and a tasty treat as well?  The size of the box is 6″ by 2″, and the compartment is ~4″ tall.  You could fit many different gifts in one of these lovely bags.

They will store flat, so you can make a bunch ahead of time!

Start with a 12″ x 12″ piece of paper, if there is a pattern that runs in one direction, score with that side up first at 3″ and 9″.  Turn it 90 degrees, and score at 4 7/8″ and 7 1/8″.   Fold and burnish the score lines.  With the 3″ and 9″ score lines running vertically, fold each edge to the center.  Pivot the closer horizontal fold line out to the edge, and line it up with the corresponding outside fold.  This is hard to describe, but much easier when you see the video.  Do this “pivot” for each corner.

Next, take the 6″ by 6″ piece of paper or card stock, and cut it in half diagonally.  Score a line parallel to, and 1″ from, the diagonal.  I did this on the trimmer, by lining the diagonal line on the 1″ mark.  Now, placing the diagonal along the top edge of the trimmer, place the “point” (the right angle of the triangle) on the 3″ line, which will put one of the acute angles of the triangle about 1″ish past the scoring track, and score.  Flip the triangle horizontally, and score the other acute angle while keeping the right angle on the 3″ line.  Clear as mud?  It is definitely easier and quicker to watch the video.

Glue the and of the bag to one of the handles by lining it up to the 1″ score line, and centering between the other two score lines.  Repeat with the other triangle.  I rounded the top angle of the handle using a 1 1/4″ circle punch, then holding the handles together, punched a 1 1/4″ circle in the center of the handle, as far down as the punch would go.

The 3-pack of K-cups fits perfectly, and I topped it off with some Pfeffernusse cookies tied in a bag.  I used candy canes for the hot chocolate.   Then, I punched a 1/8″ hole, about 1″ in from each side right above the score line, threaded a ribbon through, and tied a bow.  I left the tails long for a beautiful effect.

Quick Cat Treat Holder for Mini-Ghirardelli squares

Hi Everyone,

I thought my All Hallow’s Eve projects were done, but then these cute and quick little Cat Treat Holders showed up in my craft room.  I just had to share them!

Each one holds a mini-Ghirardelli chocolate, and is very quick to make.

I used a piece of card stock 1 1/2″ by 7 3/4″, and score with the long side up at 3 3/4″ and 4″.  Then, holding the ends together, placed the open ends at the 1 1/2″ mark on the Envelope Punch Board, and punched.  I flipped him over, and punch the opposite side at the same 1 1/2″ mark.  Then, still holding the open ends together, slid them directly into the throat of the punch, trying to center the curve of the punch on the 1 1/2″ ends of card-stock, and that makes his ears.  If I am being as clear as mud, there is a video that is easier to follow.

Pretty Label Top Pocket

Hi Everyone,

Here is a quick treat pocket that uses the Pretty Label Punch to create a decorative top.  It will hold the 100 Calorie Dove Bars, or a similar sized candy bar.  Aren’t they sweet?

I used the Petal Garden Designer Series Paper pack, but you could certainly use any paper you have.  Start with a piece 5″ by 5 1/2 “.  With the 5″ side up, (this will be your top) score at 1 1/2″ and 3 3/4”.  Turn the paper counterclockwise, and score at 5″ (which is 1/2″ from the bottom.)

On the bottom 1/2″ score line, remove the outer two rectangles, and keep the center one for the glue tab at the bottom of the pocket.  Glue the wider side flap over the shorter side, and glue the bottom tab up.  A quick pocket to be made.

Then, I fed the bottom of the pocket through the front of the pretty label punch, and pulled it out of the center of the hole for the shape.  I slower pulled it out the bottom until the top edge of the pocket could be seen, then slid it back in slightly.  I lined up the sides of the pocket parallel to the sides of the punch, then made sure it was centered in the shape, and punched.  It might sound confusing, but it is quite easy.  Just watch the video for a demonstration.  Then I snipped each side from about 1/4″ down to cut off the tiny scallop on each side, leaving a large center scallop and a smaller one to each side.  Fold down the front flap, and secure with a dimensional.

The sentiment was stamped from the Text Ya Later stamp set.  I punched it out with the Classic Label Punch, and kept the sentiment to the right, so I could stick a medium Gold Faceted Gem on the left side.  A glue dot was used to stick it to the pocket, see the pictures for positioning.  To complete it, I used the sheer whisper white ribbon to tie a little bow, and stuck it on with a glue dot.  Tuck in your treat and you are done!

This one will hold a Hershey Mini chocolate bar.

I also made a smaller version to hold the mini-Hershey’s Bars, and started with a piece of paper that was 5″ by 4″  The rest of the pocket is scored and assembled the same.  I used the Old Olive 1/8″ ribbon on the right one.

I hope you give this a try, it is quick and easy, and would be great for a classroom if done in a theme.  Perhaps Halloween?  Thanksgiving?  Maybe even Christmas!
