Christmas 2017 Wobbler Chums Gift Card Box

Hi Everyone!

I think I made this one for me, as I could not stop playing with it to make the characters “wobble” back and forth.  It is a gift card box, that has the back compartment for the gift card, but the front for an adorable character to wobble back and forth when the box is tapped.  So much fun!

Here are the two compartments:

What makes the character “wobble” is an Action Wobble Mini Action Spring from Hampton Art.  I couldn’t find any local, so I purchased some through Amazon:

They are self-adhesive on both sides, so they are quick to stick the character to the background panel.  I placed the wobble spring in the center of the character, to allow full movement.

For the box, I used a piece of card stock 6 1/2″ by 10 1/2″.  The “background” panel for the wobbler, and the window film are both 2 3/8″ by 3 3/4″.  Decorate the background panel any way you like to coordinate with your image.  The window was cut using the Lots of Labels framelits.

I used the Seasonal Chums stamp set for my characters, and used the matching framelits to cut them out.  Then, I just “fussy cut” the front and back of the tag apart.  I kept the “tag loop” on the back image, as I used it for the “to & from” tag.  Then I just colored them in with markers.

Because the “wobbler” is contained in a box, I did use a little extra ballast to help with the movement.  I used one of the larger metal rimmed pearl, and stuck it to the underside of the bottom of the snowman, and under the head of the reindeer.  I feel the extra weight gives the wobbler a little more momentum.  If you don’t have any metal rimmed pearls, a small button adhered with one or more glue dots would probably work.  Just make sure they are well stuck.

Take a look at the video to see the wobblers in action!  I hope you think they are as fun as I do.  So, until we meet again, may your days be blessed.  ~Darby

Christmas 2017 #10 Christmas Card with pocket

For Christmas 2017, I am going to create TWO projects every week.  And, they will be created in the order that I usually create during the Christmas countdown.  So, I start with Christmas cards.  Often, Christmas cards do double-duty, and carry newsletters, pictures, gift certificates, or even money.  So, for my second project, I created a card that will carry all those and so much more!

The card measures 9 1/4″ by 3 7/8″, and will fit just right into a #10 business size envelope.  You can make them, or you can purchase them in multitudes of colors at the local office supply store.  Or, if you have Amazon Prime, just order a few from Amazon and you won’t even have to leave the house!  Might be beneficial for those up North who are starting to get that cold, fluffy-white stuff!

The pocket is 8 3/4″ long, so you can fit a standard letter sized paper, carefully folder into thirds, right into the pocket.  You can also fit 3 1/2″ by 5″ pictures, gift certificates, and even money! Because it fits in a #10 envelope, it only needs one first-class stamp to mail in the United States.

Use 1/4″ tear and tape on top and bottom of pocket to give you the most room in the pocket.

Thank you for visiting!  Until we meet again, I hope your days are blessed!  ~Darby

Christmas 2017: Star of Light Card with inside pocket

Hi Everyone!

Even though we are still enjoying the Fall and all of the wonderful autumn celebrations, it is time to start creating some projects for Christmas.  In our family, we have been giving small and meaningful gifts for many years, whether handmade or locally crafted.  Selecting small, but meaningful presents, allows us to keep a better focus on the true gift of Christmas, Jesus Christ.

Christmas is such a beautiful time of year, and for it to be ruined by chaos and materialism is a shame.  IMHO, it is much better to have peace and happiness in our hearts as we celebrate God’s Greatest Gift to us, His Son.

So, I try to start early and small, nothing too overwhelming.  One of the first things on the list is getting the Christmas Card list and Cards created, so they can go in the mail early December.  I do make additional cards for local nursing homes, but they will be hand delivered, so we do that as Christmas draws closer.

An inside pocket can hold tags, small pictures, notes, and gift cards.

The card is a corner-flip card, and starts with a standard 5 1/2″ by 4 1/4″ card base.  The corner is cut in a way to allow it to “flip” over, and the addition of a mat gives us a pocket on the inside.

I used the Star of Light stamp set by Stampin’ Up!, along with the matching framelits.  With it’s Night of Navy and Whisper White, it gives a nice contrast to the Silver Glimmer Star that is featured.  I love the elegant simplicity of this card, but it is also quite useful.

The inside pocket will hold notes, wallet size pictures of the kids, a tag for a heartfelt greeting or even a gift card.  I have a hard time explaining this one without getting confusing, so here is the video which is much clearer.

Thank you for visiting!  And, until we meet again, may your days be blessed.  ~Darby

This is exciting!

After a HUGE learning curve, (and some good-natured ribbing by my teens) I was actually able to shoot, edit and upload my first video tutorial to YouTube.

Corner Flip Card with bonus corner bookmarks

Here is the project I created:

I used the corner flip technique, and then matted the card in way so the mat becomes the pocket for the gift card inside.
